Working with Clay.

We love to work with clay and we made two things this month.
 First we played with the clay. then we rolled it into a ball and pushed our thumbs down into the middle to make a bowl. It was really easy to do and we did a great job. We left the bowls to dry and then we were allowed to make whatever we wanted to. We made butterflies, people, dogs, cats, rabbits. It was great fun.

When all the clay was dry, we painted everything. We used the three primary colours red, blue and yellow. We mixed the paints and made lots of new colours to use on the clay.

Saint Patrick's Day Celebrations.

Celebrating Saint Patrick's Day was great fun. We made hats and stuck a green shamrock on the front. We had a concert with the other Infant classes. We danced Ballaí  Luimní and Mrs Bell was very proud of us.

Saint. Patrick

Saint Patrick is our special saint in Ireland and we did lots of work to celebrate his feast day. While Miss Olsen was with us she told us the story of Patrick and we watched a film  called "Give Up Yer Aul Sins, The Story Of Saint Patrick". This was a great film and we think you would enjoy watching it. Afterwards we worked in groups making a project about Saint Patrick.

Spring Term: Our Tile Display

We have been very busy this term and have taken lots of photographs of our activities.

We painted pretty flowers and leaves on white tiles. When they were dry, Ogie glued them onto the wall outside our classroom. They make a lovely display. Thank you Ogie :-)

Nativity Play 2011

Tuesday 13th December was a big day for us. After many weeks of rehearsals, we finally got to perform our Nativity Play for our Mums and Dads. Mrs Daly helped with the music and six girls from 6th class helped us to dress up in our costumes. The show started at 9.30am and we were just fabulous. We all knew what to do, we said our lines and we sang all the songs.
Afterwards the Mums and Dads had coffee and we had a party.
Mrs Bell was very proud of us all!

The Gruffalo and Little Red Riding Hood

We read the story of The Gruffalo and the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Both stories were set in the deep, dark woods. Everybody loved the two stories. We pretended to be the animals. We used a squeaky  voice for the mouse and a hissing voice for the snake. We looked at the high things and the low things. The Gruffalo, the tree and the owl were high. The mouse, the snake and the fox were low. The fox was fast and the mouse and snake were slow.

• I liked the way we could join in and say "There's no such thing as a Gruffalo" (Amber)
• I liked the fox and his underground house (Séamus)
• I liked the purple prickles on the Gruffalo's back (Grace)
• I liked the big bad wolf in Little Red Riding Hood (Lola)
• I liked the snake sliding from his log pile house (Makayla)
• I liked the owl in his treetop house (Aaron)
• I liked when the woodcutter rescued Granny (Chris)

We painted pictures of the Gruffalo and Red Riding Hood. We painted a forest and put our pictures in it. We  added painted leaves and some squirrels. Here is our display!

Learning about Hedgehogs

We have been busy learning all about hedgehogs.

• Hedgehogs have spikey prickles (Callum)
• They have short legs and small eyes (Alexander)
• Their prickles are brown and yellow (Lucy)
• The hedgehog can be found in the hedge, that is why he is called a hedgehog (Fiona)
• He has a nose like a pig or a hog, that is why it is called a hedgehog (Beth)
• The hedgehog rolls into a ball to keep safe (Maria & Noel)
• The hedgehog sleeps during the day and comes out at night (Tiarnán)
• He eats slugs and snails, he is the gardener's friend (Hannah)
• Do give the hedgehog bread or milk, this can make him sick (Tadhg & Logan)
• Give him some dog or cat food and some water (Camille)
• The hedgehog hibernates in Winter, this means he goes for a long sleep (Molly & Eva)
• The Irish name for a hedgehog is "Gráinneog" (Fiona)
