Potato Day

Thursday, October 4th, was Potato Day in our school.
To celebrate the day, we did lots of potato prints and then had some yummy potato to eat.

For the printing, the potatoes were cut in half and then shapes were cut into each half.
We did two pages each, one light and one dark.

We used lots of different colours and made many pretty patterns with the potato shapes.

When we had finished doing our prints, we ate some delicious potato cakes :-)

We really enjoyed Potato Day, it was great fun :-)

Google Hangout

We took part in our first Google Hangout today!

The Hangout was part of the national launch of Children’s Book Festival 2012. It was a Monster Doodle Party with Laureate na nÓg, Niamh Sharkey, South Dublin Libraries and Children’s Books Ireland.

Niamh was in the County Library Tallaght and we could see her on our Interactive Whiteboard.

She showed us how to draw, we copied her and were delighted with our results!

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to Niamh, Maria, Nessa, Kieran and everyone involved in organising the Google Hangout. We enjoyed every minute of it and were delighted to be involved :-)

Leaf Prints

We have been learning about Autumn. We brought lots of leaves to school and did some leaf printing. We had leaves from the Horse Chestnut Tree, the Sycamore, the Oak, the Beech and the Ash.

We used many different colour paints for the printing - red, orange, brown, green, yellow.
We had great fun doing the prints and we were very proud of the results.

Connecting with Other Classes

We love to connect with other classes in Ireland and around the world. We Tweet as @MrsBellsClass. We tell about what's happening in school and we learn what other classes are getting up to!

We also love to Skype. On Thursday September 13th, we had a very interesting Skype session with Class 2HSB, Willerby Carr Lane Primary School,  near Hull in East Yorkshire in the North of England.  We asked each other questions about our schools. We were amazed to hear that they are in school everyday until 3.30pm! We sang a song for them and Daniel, Aaron and Séamus showed them their hurleys and told them about the game. They had never heard of hurling.

We will keep up contact with our new friends. They have already sent us an email and we have replied to them. We hope to skype with them again soon!

Welcome to Senior Infants

We are now in Senior Infants and have moved to Room 2. We have a lovely big classroom and we can see The Sugar Loaf Mountain from our classroom window. We have 33 boys and girls in our class. We have been very busy during the past two weeks and we have taken lots of photographs for you.

These photographs were taken on September 3rd, our first day in Senior Infants.

These photographs show some of the things we made. We are really very good at making things!

Thank you for reading our Blog. You can follow us on Twitter, we are @MrsBellsClass.
